August was a wierd month.
I delivered my final wedding package of the summer and am now looking forward to the next two months of traveling again. First back to the USA to see my family, then Italy, then up to Nottingham for the Analogue Spotlight event! There will be quite a few train rides and airports so if you have an recommended reading or watching or podcasts, let me know in the comments or hit reply :)
With the Analogue Spotlight event, I’ve been volunteering to own the social media and a bit of the planning admin. Things are shaping up and I’m looking forward to it.
If you want to check out the event and what we’ve got going on, head over to the website here.
But why was August wierd?
It’s a transition month, summer's on the way out, and my favorite season is on the way in. Transition months always feel a bit wierd. January is like this as well, transitioning into a new year after the highs of the buzzy holiday season.
I’ve also been reflecting on working as a freelance photographer and writer while still recovering from burnout, taking steps to be healthier, and thinking a lot about the future. While this is good in some ways, it also can make my head spin a bit.
So, how was your August?
Headlines
Let’s get into the headlines! I’ll also add some commentary here this month, let me know if you enjoy reading this or just want the straight links :)
This lens looks super charming! If you LOVE bokeh, have a peek because this could make your shallow depth of field dreams come true.
Not the most exciting news release as I’m not personally that into Macro BUT if you are, it looks like a good third party option.
This was a cute story that’s been told many times, although I did write it on suggestion and I might have passed it by otherwise.
Very cool and exciting for Instax-loving Hasselblad owners!
A long list from Jim Grey with SO MANY BLOGS ON FILM PHOTOGRAPHY. Folks, this community is alive, blogs are alive. I love it. If there are any you see missing, leave Jim a comment for him to check it out!
A nifty device that I would absolutely buy if it was in the budget. A tripod head that can be adjusted one-handed.
Interesting work from David Hume using film as a basis for his art.
Yes! I was so excited to see this, I’m really pulling for the Develop + Fix team because I think we need a conversion software that is independent of Lightroom or other softwares.
What do y’all think of this film? And will you shoot it in 120 and 110? I’d love to try it in 110!
The news video below is my latest, although it doesn’t include that past couple weeks. It takes a lot of time to produce a video so they might come out biweekly instead of weekly now.
Youtube Videos
In the latest one, I take CatLabs out for a spin and then take you along the whole developing processing with some scanning and printing action at the end…
My thoughts on Candido 200 film…
A New Blog / Website!
My new shiny blog / website is live! Visit it here: https://eclectachrome.press
I’ve blogged casually since around 2013-ish, probably earlier. However, my posting was inconsistent and my site domains changed all the time.
I had a new Instagram name every three months. That’s about how long it takes me before I’m onto something new!
This is the longest I’ve ever stuck with something (eclectachrome/film photography) and it feels good not to be starting over all the time.
I’ve signed up for a 4-year hosting plan with Hostinger and already loving them more than Bluehost! My previous experience with hosting platforms includes Wordpress, Bluehost, and SiteGround.
If you are ever interested in starting your own blog, I’m more than happy to share what I know, just ask!
So check it out here and let me know what you think :)
If you have an RSS feed or reader like Feedly, the site can easily be added!
Check This!
This is the section where I share some cool things I’ve seen, watched, read, listened to in the past month.
Aly’s Vintage Camera Alley reviews the Nikon F3 here!
Sunny 16 Podcast episodes:
Billy and Johnny have an excellent Music and Photography podcast episode here.
Grainsplaining is back at it over here!
Now, for your viewing pleasure, a few of the Youtube videos I watched:
If you are into street photography or black and white photography, you will absolutely enjoy this one from Alan Schaller.
This is a new channel for me, Captured by Sam, and I have enjoyed watching a lot of her videos lately!
I always enjoy Alex L’s videos :)
The Analog Hour is back with Lucy Lumen and Matt Loves Cameras - although if you don’t have Youtube premium, make sure there is enough juice on your phone to leave it open for the whole time!
Signing Off
Well, hope there was some good stuff in there for August!
Let me know what your plans for September are below in the comments.
I’m headed back home to the good ol’ USA to see my family and my little nieces who I haven’t met yet (because they live far away). So next time you hear from me, I will be Stateside!
XOXO
Molly
Great write up!
