The FIND Lab (Utah, USA) and Candido Collective (UK) partnered together in 2024 to bring film photographers a ‘new’ color film option!
I got the chance to shoot this limited edition film thanks to Candido and LOVED the results. Today’s newsletter blast is all about sharing my roll with you.
This ISO 400 film is bold, colorful, and delicious.
Don’t ask me what the film really is because I don’t know…and I’m less interested these days in debates on ‘new’ films.
One thing to keep in mind with these images is that I shot them with a cine bloom filter on (similar to the black promist filters) by accident (I forgot to take it off!).
So, the highlight blooming is not the film, it’s the filter.
For the most part, the exposure was even in the FM2n’s meter, some leaning on the slightly overexposed side.
These were developed and scanned by Boston Film Lab aka CatLabs, basic level.
I’m happy with the results and service from BFL but would LOVE to try the FIND Lab’s service next! Aside from their website being incredibly snappy, their prices are fair, and did I read this right that they have a 2-day turnaround?
I need to see for myself. :)
The FIND Lab is located in Utah, nearish to Salt Lake City, in Orem. They provide loads of services related to film, processing, scanning, editing, etc. You can buy film and cameras from their online store and prices on film are reasonable.
Candido Collective became a popular film brand in the last couple years, providing cheaper prices and shorter rolls for film photographers who were looking to save a little.
“Pay for flights, not film”
I have a video on Candido 200 which I didn’t enjoy that much, but there were a couple of reasons for this. Recently, Candido sent me their updated film to try again and I’ll be sharing more thoughts in another newsletter/video/post soon! (unless that comes out before this one…)
I admire the effort these two companies have made to encourage folks to get into film and/or keep shooting film.
Candido’s updated tagline is now, “Take risks, shoot film”, which I can get behind. Their aesthetic is fun, fresh, and community oriented…aligning seamlessly with the FIND Lab’s similar vibe.
These images were created around another small river town near the mountains and lakes region of New Hampshire. I used my Nikon FM2n and a new 28mm Series E lens!
The one aspect of film that’s always hard for me to wrestle around is price. For folks buying in USD, Candido films might be expensive. However, it depends on where you get it and how much the shipping costs are as well.

OK -- I won't compare it to other films or try to figure out what it really is. Just focus on your results. The slight overexposure and bloom filter give it 'peak of summer' vibes to me -- when the sun seems just a little TOO bright -- but that's a good thing! The colors are smooth and not OVERsaturated (just right saturated), even with the 'bright' feel of the photos. And your images posted here are sharp and crisp -- great for the 'basic' scan resolution (why am I paying for the Super Scans at The Darkroom?). So this looks like a film that I would happily shoot if I can get it at a reasonable price. One note -- your last photo of the decks/balconies over the water -- look at the bottom joist/header board near the left end of the lower deck/balcony -- there is a really severe and dangerous crack in the board. Not sure if you can get in contact with the people in that building, but that is very unsafe and needs to be fixed. Cheers!!!
I always enjoy your film reviews! I just arrived this morning in Bermuda 🇧🇲 after a 6 1/2 day sail from Orient NC. I just need to replace a Halyard and refuel.., the Nikon FM2 is great camera and that film turned out great! I’m going to process a roll of Ilford HP5 127/46mm ULF that I shot on the Yashica-44 during the crossing while I’m here in port and copy them with the DigitaLiza.
